First thing to do is find a percussion one-shot that has a full frequency range to it. Once you have that, make it get triggered one every beat and make the loop for 4 bars (4 x 4).
Multiband TimeShaper 2
Next, drop ShaperBox 2 onto the channel and load the TimeShaper module. Will will be using the multi-band system for this, so go ahead and maximize the spectrum view. Let the percussion loop play and find the low-end, the mid-low section and leave all the higher frequency content together.
You should have a kick-ish bit, a bongo/congo thing, and something like a snare or high hat. You can solo each band to make sure it sounds good sonically on its own.
Next, for the low end, again probably a good idea to solo the band while we work with it, we want to add a gentle pitch downshift to it. This will make it sound more like a proper kick or bass drum.
For the Mid range, again solo it so you can focus on it, cycle through a number of wave shape presets until you find a rhythm that you like.
And, then do something similar for the high-end frequency content. You should have what sounds like 3 different percussion instruments playing different rhythms now.
Experiment with different presets for the mid’s and highs. For the lows, I would only suggest making this 4 x 4, 1 x 4, 2 x 4 or something like that. Just keep it steady and the slight pitching effect to make sure it stays sounding like a more defined kick.
MIDI Switch
Next, we can add variation by using the MIDI Switch feature.
The setup for MIDI Switching will be slightly different for each DAW, but in Ableton Live 10 you simply send you MIDI from the MIDI channel into the Channel with the ShaperBox plugin on it.
Next, assign the MIDI Switch with different shapes. You will notice the each band has a slightly different color and each module (TimeShaper, VolumeShaper, PanShaper, etc.) uses its own color as well. This is very helpful for staying organized.
Each MIDI Switch slot has the MIDI note value used to trigger that pattern. C# 3 and up. So, just use that in your MIDI clip and you’ll be good to go.

At this point, you should already have something that sounds pretty sweet. However, using a couple more modules we can make it even better.
I added the VolumeShaper next and set the multiband crossover positions to the smae frequency positions as the first one. Then, simply adjust the overall volume for each band to start mixing the 3 elements better.
Then, pretty much repeated that process with the PanShaper to push the mids a bit to the right and the highs a bit to the left. Giving it an even more and very impressive sound.
Obviously, the sky’s the limit here. This was just meant to get you in and get you started with some of the more advanced features of ShaperBox as a whole and some of the individual modules too.
